More at Four
More at Four is a high-quality Pre-K program that serves children while preparing them for success in school. More at Four serves children in a full school day, for the full school year. The More at Four programs serves 100 children, 6 hours per day, 5 days a week for 180 days a year at Macon Program for Progress. It is integrated with the Head Start program. Macon Program for Progress also has a partnership with Macon County Schools where More at Four children attend a local public school More at Four classroom and they are also enrolled in the Head Start Program. More at Four is a state funded program. The More at Four classrooms use the Creative Curriculum, and the North Carolina Foundations Children must be four years of age by August 31 of the program year, and they will be entering kindergarten the following year. Family income, limited English proficiency, identified disabilities, chronic health condition and developmental or educational needs are factors that help children receive the More at Four services. Priority is given to eligible children who have not been served in any other preschool or child care program.
Staff in these classrooms have a minimum AA degree and must be working toward a B-K degree.
Head Start 0-5 Program
0-5 Head Start is a federally funded comprehensive child development program serving pregnant women and children from 0 to 5 years of age, from low income families in Macon County. The overall goal is to increase school readiness of young children. This encompasses five developmental domains key to school  readiness: physical well-being and motor development: social and emotional development; approaches to learning; language development, emerging literacy; and cognition and general knowledge. Children receive cognitive, emotional, and social development; physical and mental health; and nutritional needs. Parents are assisted in becoming actively involved in their child’s educational process through parent involvement. 0-5 Head Start conducts home visits and parent/teacher conferences. Head Start is free of charge to eligible families. Head Start and Early Head Start is center based. Head Start is 6 hours per day, five days a week, for 10 months of the year, and serves 180 children. Early Head Start is 5.5 hours per day, four days a week, full year, serving 135 children 0 to 3 years of age. Head Start operates 3 centers, two in the Franklin area and one in Highlands. Early Head Start operates 4 centers, three in Franklin and one in Highlands. Three of the centers utilize Subsidized Childcare services which lengthen the classroom day and months of the year if needed to provide child care for parents of children who are working, or attending school. Parents pay for Subsidized Childcare fees are on a sliding scale basis. All of the 0-5 Head Start facilities are state-of-the-art and have computers in each classroom. The newly finished playgrounds are also a major asset for the 0-5 Head Start children.
Extended Day Childcare 0-5
Extended Day childcare is designed to assist families in need of full day / full year childcare that may go beyond 0-5 Head Start hours. The typical client is a parent/guardian of a child enrolled in 0-5 Head Start, who is working or going to school and needs childcare before Head Start or Early Head Start regular hours and/or beyond afternoon hours, or child care in the summer months. MPP extended childcare provided children with quality care in the same physical space, providing consistency and convenience to families. Daily activities are offered to compliment the 0-5 Head Start programs. MPP accepts subsidized vouchers from the Department of Social Service.
